Welcome to the Till Valley Community First Responders website. This
website provides information on the First Responder scheme, details
about this group, the area we cover, the equipment we use, call-outs
that we have attended and much more.
First Responders are members of the community who have been trained in
giving emergency life saving first aid. Trained, controlled and deployed
by their regional Ambulance Service, First
Responder schemes operate in any area where an emergency ambulance would
be unable or unlikely to reach an incident within the eight minute
target response time. As members of the local community, First
Responders are able to reach a patient in minutes, a factor which could
be crucial when dealing with serious illness such as cardiac arrest. In
recent years, advances in technology have been made, and many
interventions which were previously performed only by highly trained
medical professionals are now available to people with much less
training. These include small, easy to operate 'external defibrillators'
(AEDs) and lightweight oxygen delivery systems (see '
Our
Equipment' page).
“A community based group of Volunteers, trained and equipped to
assist North East Ambulance Service by being available to respond to
certain types of Emergency call within their local area, with the
aim of supporting the attending Ambulance crew and ensuring that
care reaches the patient at the earliest opportunity”
